I have been using a Toshiba Dynadock docking station to power two Dell U2713HM monitors for 5 years using my Apple Macbooks and Windows (work) machines without incident. This has allowed me to utilize a three external monitor workflow (4 monitors when including the laptop display) when using my macs and windows machines. After upgrading to MacOS 10.13.4 the displaylink driver no longer works. The displaylink driver allows the system to power two external monitors via a single USB 3.0 port. I've spoken to Apple support representatives and Displaylink support representatives and there seems to be a disconnect between both companies. As a longtime Apple customer and owner of several Mac machines I simply need my system to work the way it always has. Upgrades shouldn't remove/delete functionality; it should improve my computing experience. After upgrading to MacOS 10.13.4 I had to restore my systems to 10.13.3 to restore my external monitor functionality.
I really don't care who's responsible for causing this issue as a user I simply would like my system to continue to work as it always has or better. A lost of functionality should never be the cost of an upgrade. I own Macs because I've come to expect cutting edge excellence and the best computing experience money can buy. So imagine my disappointment when I had to spend several hours restoring 10.13.3 and set all my Macs to prevent automatic updates.
The problem as I understand it, 'Apple as of 10.13.4 has restricted GPU support to the ports that directly connect to the GPU. If there's a reason Apple made this move; as a customer I'd like to know why. Simply put please explain why GPU support is now restricted.
